What a Blast! More than 300 attend Square Dance Fundraiser!

Saturday’s Square Dancing fundraiser was such a great success thanks to the herculean efforts of a few people who brought together the help of several others and put on “the social event of the year!”

Two of our Run for the Call team members, Matthew and Marie Howe pulled together a team of young adults from across the greater Cincinnati area, and leaned on the parish support at St. Anthony of Padua, lead by Rob Thiemann, to bring in over 300 people from all across the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (including a group from as far north as McCartyville, OH) to raise money for the Run for the Call cause! It was a tremendous evening of food, fun and dancing – lots and lots of dancing!

The evening started with Marie teaching everyone how to square dance. The sight was one of confusion, laughter and, eventually, rousing applause as everyone slowly understood the basics. Then the fun really began as Mr. Zeke Regula came in all the way from the Northern reaches of the Archdiocese to “call” some square dances in real time. As the kinks slowly worked themselves out all the squares were moving in rhythm and you could tell Zeke was loving every minute of it! That love was reciprocated by the dancers by the end of the night as each time Zeke came up to call a few more dances, chants of

“Zeke! Zeke! Zeke! Zeke!” filled the room. The newly initiated urban cowboys were ready to tackle the next dance and they couldn’t wait to get started.

Of course, square dancing can’t last all evening, but that didn’t stop the dance floor from being filled throughout the night with celebrity DJs Jay Kruz of Rewind 94.9 and Jesse Tack of B105 spinning the tunes and keeping the party hopping!

When people needed a break and a refreshment, there were plenty to be found thanks to the generous volunteers who supplied Skyline Chili Cheese Coneys, Subway Sandwiches, authentic Middle Eastern salad, hummus, chips, pretzels, Graeter’s desserts, homemade desserts and plenty of soft drinks and water. If anybody went away hungry, they were having too much fun on the dance floor!

In the end, Run for the Call raised nearly $850! That is nearly $500 more than we had anticipated!

So, a special thanks to all the event organizers, volunteers and workers! I can’t begin to name you all, but you know who you are and I sincerely thank you for your generosity. I’d especially like to thank St. Anthony of Padua Church for donating the use of the facilities there, including the soft drinks and all the homemade food (and probably much more that I don’t even realize). Also, thanks goes to all the sponsoring young adult groups who contributed in one way or another to make this event a success. A big thanks goes to Mr. Zeke Regula for providing the square dancing fun and thanks to Jay Kruz and Jesse Tack for providing the entertainment the rest of the night! Thanks to Livon Photography and Design who was there, not only to capture the event, but to add a little fun to the party with a special photo booth with loads of props. And finally, thanks to those who made it out to this event! Without your attendance and support for Run for the Call, all the hard work and planning would have been for naught. Instead we had a fantastic time at a spectacular event! 🙂

We look forward to seeing you again at our Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser happening on May 5th (Saturday night of the Flying Pig Weekend) from 5-8 pm at St. Cecilia Church in Oakley!
